Fifty miles north of Palm Springs and at twice the elevation, sits the high desert and the location of our show.

The San Bernardino mountains separate the two communities, both physically and culturally.   The high desert, logistically situated on the backside of Palm Springs’ glitz, glamor, golf and liberal culture, is rural, working class, a bedroom community and military town - maga country. It's the ruby red region of California, embedded deep within its interior, far from its urban centers, beaches and azure blue politics.

Despite its conservative sensibility, the high desert is not without its charm and character. Joshua Tree is nestled in the footprint of Joshua Tree Nat’l Park, the state’s natural jewel. Millions converge on the area annually to experience the quirky, DIY, pioneering spirit and frontier attitude of the community. The burgeoning art and music scene attracts hipsters and backpackers seeking an “off the grid” adventure.

 There’s a downside…

The newcomers threaten the natives' way of life. Gentrification of the area is causing fissures and growing pains. The invasive influx is taking a toll on the community, creating winners and losers.
