Episode Structure & season arc
Typical episodes include:
-
Work on the homes
-
Cast confessionals
-
One-on-one “therapy” sessions that Randi reluctantly engages in to talk individual crew members off the ledge
Desert Rehabs is a hybrid of both serial and episodic formats. Every episode will not conclude with a completed house. Storylines will continue in a serial format, sequentially and non sequentially. Similar to serialized television, there will be plot twists, cast dynamics, suspense and cliffhangers. The audience will have to stay tuned week to week to learn the outcomes of the homes and cast. If all goes to plan, season one will culminate with the completion of the second phase of the venture/project.
Can Randi succeed? That is the question.
Think Real Housewives Franchise meets Good Bones meets Pit Bull Parolees.
Desert Rehabs chronicles the reality of rehabbing homes,
but in dramatic fashion.
Deviating from the traditional home renovation show format, which includes:
-
House in disrepair
-
Host comes to the rescue
-
Midway through, a problem is encountered
-
Problem resolved, renovation completed
-
House revealed, Owners happy
Desert Rehabs flips the formula on its head, reinventing the genre with a comedic and dramatic twist.
Episode one introduces the cast, the homes in development, Joshua Tree, the investors and the obstacles ahead. Desert Rehabs follows the cast’s colorful backstories and their shenanigans that potentially threaten the completion of the homes, and ultimately Randi’s business venture.
Episodes that follow will explore the challenges presented in rehabbing distressed homes, not to mention the distressed humans Randi hires for the job! Their personal stories are woven throughout the episodes, establishing the B-story and forming the connective tissue between episodes.
